Every Tuesday, I’ll be on SEN Track to pick out some interesting races worth running an eye over. On the radio, we’ll mostly be reacting to late market moves, but there is enough to mention right now.
With the sun shining across the nation, we look set for yet another cracking day of racing. We start the day in Newcastle for Race 2, where it’s gearing up to potentially be a fierce battle between the two favourites. So far this morning, the #1 Extra Smart has been getting the attention of punters rather than the favourite #4 Hellcibell. Extra Smart had a good return to racing last start with a 4th place finish, which no doubt would have filled her with confidence coming into this one. She also has a decent 2nd-up record, placing in both runs, and her form would suggest that she is a prime candidate for a win come the finish. Hellcibell is coming into her third career following results of second place and a maiden win. Clearly the strong favourite, and she loves to lead and set the pace. So, if her fitness holds up and she maintains the pace, look for her to come away with a back-to-back win. In terms of a value pick, I quite like the #6 Wilderness Star, who has been steadily building up towards a strong win, and with the good draw, it should be interesting to see if she is afforded the right run.
Next up is Grafton Race 4, where it looks set to be quite an open race with multiple runners in this larger field capable of coming away with a win. This morning we have seen some early money come in for both the #1 Narnia and #3 Fairway Choice. Narnia is a bit of a surprising one as he only has the one career win, but if you look at recent performances, he is quite the consistent runner. He has shown that he has good race ability and has put out positive performances without getting the win. The wide draw would also add some extra pressure on Narnia to perform well enough to get the win. Fairway Choice, on the other hand, looks set to start the race as the sure favourite. Having won on debut, she clearly exhibits a good level of natural skill, and after a tougher race last start, she will be coming into this one a lot fitter and better for it. With the favourable draw, she is a clear player to storm away with a win. #2 Sparkle Motion is my value pick for this race and at $5 presents a good opportunity if he is able to pick off the favourites. His last run can be forgiven due to it being the first race since his break, but he will use the experience from that and find this race a lot easier.
Making our way to Yeppoon for Race 5, we have seen some sharp money come in for #8 Toy Blaze who opened up at close to $50 but has now tumbled into $15. Most recent results have been in the midfield, but he does show good pace and has the ability to come away with a decent result if he is afforded the right run. #2 Skymaster looks well placed to make a huge run for the win in this race. Two starts back he was too good for the rest of the field and came away with a strong win at Rockhampton. However, in his last start, he did get caught in traffic and finished in the midfield. He does start from Gate 6, but if he can get a good start and cross, he should turn on the jets and storm all the way for a win.
Finally, to end the beautiful sunny day, we head to Horsham Race 6, where a lot of the early money coming in has been for the #7 Mulga Lil who at $10 screams value, especially with a win and second place over its last 3 starts. The favourite #1 Duhlata has also been receiving some backing from punters. Coming into this with back-to-back placings, he has been edging closer towards a win, particularly with a drop back in grade and will be sent to lead the pack, which should grant him space and a better run. #10 Scandalous Scarlet is another runner that comes into this with every chance of winning, especially after winning last start over this same grade and trip. Will look to start well and position itself towards the front of the pack, and if the right run is afforded, I can’t see why she can’t go back-to-back.
Thanks for following along, and don’t forget to tune into SEN Track to hopefully snag some wins. BOOM!
