Every Tuesday, I’ll be on SEN Track to pick out some interesting races worth running an eye over. On the radio, we’ll mostly be reacting to late market moves, but there is enough to mention right now.
To start our Tuesday afternoon of racing, we will be looking at Benalla Race 2, where there are two odds-on favourites, both battling to secure a maiden win. #5 Lang Park, one of the favourites, will be making his second career start in this race after finishing a handy 4th place on debut. The experience gained from that run will pay dividends, and if we can see some natural improvement, I wouldn’t be surprised if he manages to get a maiden win in only his second run. He does like to get back before making his way to the front, so the wide draw won’t be much of a problem. Apart from some money coming in for the two favourites, #8 The Big Shamrock is getting some attention, and we’re seeing some early sharp money come in for him. He opened up at around $17 and has now dropped all the way down to $6. Second-up but coming into this race in fine form since a 7-month spell. The last start effort saw him finish runner-up over the 1200m, and he led them nicely throughout the race before unfortunately running out of gas. He didn’t produce the best time in that race; however, it is better than any other runner he will come up against here at Benalla. Fitness coming into this is bound to have improved, and with the right run, he is definitely capable of getting one up on the two favourites.
Making our way up north from rainy Victoria to sunny Queensland for Mackay Race 5, where on face value, it looks like the favourite #5 Courtesy Bus looks set to make it 3 wins out of its last 4 starts. He will be coming into this at the top of his game after leading throughout the last start and making his way from the midfield to win three starts back. With the drop in weight, an ideal low draw, and him already being a proven track and distance winner, it will take a stellar run from another runner to claim the win. Other than the favourite deservedly getting the attention of punters, we are noticing some money coming in for #3 Fratellino, which provides some value at $12. It is coming into this on a quick back-up and has been quite disappointing recently, in all honesty, but will be coming into this with a good record on this track, placing in 5 out of 8 starts.
Staying in Mackay for Race 6, #6 Starhattan has seen some early money come in for her after just getting beaten at the post by a whisker for a photo finish two runs back. She likes to stay in the midfield throughout the race before finding some space and turning on the jets, so if she can replicate her run at Rockhampton over this distance to finish runner-up two starts back, she could definitely be in the money. The favourite #5 Class of Royalty is clearly getting support from the market after displaying an absolute clinic last start to finish almost two lengths ahead of the rest of the field over this distance. He will be going up in grade but with recent form and fitness, it shouldn’t be much of a worry, especially if Jockey Ryan Wiggins rides him to perfection like the last start. Apart from the favourite, I also quite like #7 Zouy’s Comet at $5. Despite finishing 5th on his return from a 10-month spell, he was only beaten by 1.5 lengths after jumping slow and not having the best of starts. He will be going up in distance this race, but he will be a lot fitter and does most of his best runs over the mile and will be one to watch in this race if you like value.
For our final race this Tuesday, we will be ending our day in Scone for Race 6 where it is looking like it should be quite an open race, with the majority of early money not coming in for the favourite, #5 Legolas. Legolas is coming into this with a hit or miss form but will be running at his preferred distance of 1200m, which will be more to his liking. Although he is the favourite, there are other runners I’d be looking towards. #10 Seeni has been in some great form as of late, snagging his first career win in his last start. He comes into this with an ideal draw in gate 3, and with the step up to 1200m last start suiting him, he should be firing on all cylinders come the final straight. The traders also like #12 Pee Dee, who has had previous success here at Scone where 3 of his 4 wins have come from. He does like to lead the pace, and if he can get away well, he is normally quite hard to catch. All in all, however, I’m sure it will be one hell of a race with multiple runners capable of ending the day with a win.
Thanks for following along, and don’t forget to tune into SEN Track to hopefully snag some wins. BOOM!
