The Milkman’s Best – 15th Jan 2022

Last Week: 0/3. Fiordland was especially disappointing. Palladas perhaps did live up to the ‘nonny’ tag referenced in finishing second, but we beat the price on them all, so can at least claim a moral victory. However, as the saying goes “you can’t eat overs” so we’re looking to bounce back with some winners.

Best Bet: Wheelhouse – Gold Coast R2 #2 – $2.40

Coming into this fresh off winning last week at the track and distance, Wheelhouse will be looking for much of the same as the Waller gelding flew home widest on the track to get the chocolates after a 2nd at Randwick on boxing day behind Kirwan’s Lane.

I can’t see any other bet in this race so it makes it a no brainer for me – although if you were really looking for another option (or a Quinella) it would be Bigboyroy.

Next Best: Fundraiser – Flemington R5 #7 – $3.85 (Scratched)

Fundraiser returned from a lengthy spell on NYD to finish 4th at Flemington over 1200 and is likely looking for more. With previous success coming between 14-1600, this step up after a fast finishing 1200 looks good to me. Not to Be Mist got a nice 3rd behind our favourite, Lighthouse, in the Chester Manifold and will be in the picture but once again we’re looking at value here and with an Odds Boom you can probably get over $4 for Fundraiser, and that is well worth it for me.

Next Next Best: Dunkerry/Elzamee – Flemington R4 #4 – $5.00 & #5 – $5.00

I am selecting two here, I can’t pick between them, but you’re still getting an effective $2.50 on one of these to win and that works for me. Both having won last starts at Stony Creek (Dunkerry) and Newcastle (Elzamee) race favourite Can’t Go Wong will be up against it although has won 2/2 both at Sandown. Whilst I’ll be taking these even stake, Dunkerry winning his maiden over 5.5L at 1700 gives me the most confidence in this race as all three are making the step up to 2000m. It really comes down to whether you’d like to take $2.50 for either of these to win, and that is a yes from me.
