A-League 2021/22 Weekend Preview

A covid ravaged season is well and truly taking its toll, with games being postponed every weekend. Fortunately, this week, there are three games of A-League to watch and it will be an entertaining weekend of A-League football action.

Wellington Phoenix v Newcastle Jets

Wellington was one of the two teams who played last week, and it was a disappointing result for the New Zealand side losing 4-0 to Adelaide United. They will face a Jets side who have not played a single minute since before the Christmas period. It will be a challenging game for the Jets, who will want to come out firing, but after an upset win in the midweek FFA cup game for Wellington against the reigning champions Melbourne City, the Jets will have to prey for a miracle.

Best Bet: Wellington Win at $2.44

Prediction: Wellington Phoenix 2-1

Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United

Another “Original Rivalry” game awaits us on Saturday night, as the ladder leaders Victory takes on Adelaide in Melbourne. The Reds will be looking to continue their winning form from last week’s only game against the Phoenix, with Craig Goodwin giving his best performance to date. But, after the midweek FFA cup game where the two were up against each other, the Reds will want to get revenge after getting knocked out of the cup. The form of Victory to date has been outstanding, and Tony Popovic’s side will look for another 3 points on the board and extend the lead at the top of the ladder.

Best Bet: Francesco Margiotta anytime goal at $2.52

Prediction: Melbourne Victory 3-1

Melbourne City v Western Sydney Wanderers

Another interesting clash awaits us on Sunday, when City and the Wanderers meet in Melbourne. These two teams have not played a league game since December 19th, and will be a battle for both teams. Luckily for City, they have had match fitness in the form of the FFA cup, but they did get knocked out in the midweek cup tie against the Phoenix. For the Wanderers, the lack of match fitness will be testing, and against the reigning premiers, who are hungry after a midweek defeat, the early season struggle will continue. For City, they will want their front three to continue their attacking goal scoring form, and keep the pressure on cross town rivals Victory at the top of the league.

Best Bet: Andrew Nabbout anytime goal at $2.19

Prediction: Melbourne City 2-0
