Both teams go into this round needing a win, with the loser possibly losing touch of the top 5. The Jets let slide a 1-0 lead against the Bulls and will want to bounce back, but with no crowd at Newcastle this week due to Covid, there will be no support in the stands. It is the same equation for the Wanderers, a win will keep them in touch off the top 5 but a loss will be difficult this early on in the season.

Melbourne Victory v Western United
The Melbourne fans are treated to another derby on Boxing Day, this time its Victory up against the new boys Western United. Both teams have been in terrific form and are within reach of the top of the league. Victory will have confidence after last week’s 2-2 draw against cross-city rivals City in one of the games of the season. While Western United have flown under the radar and keep chalking up 1-0 victories, this time against the Reds.

Macarthur Bulls v Sydney FC
The Bulls come up against Sydney in what has been a disappointing start of the season for Sydney. Sydney do go into the game with their first win last week against the Phoenix and will look to replicate that this week. But with the Bulls on top of the league and their confidence sky high, they will be hard to beat.

Central Coast Mariners v Wellington Phoenix
The Mariners again have been the surprise packet of the season thus far and are sitting pretty in 4th spot. They will face the Phoenix this weekend who are struggling a bit not being able to play home games in New Zealand. The Mariners will be hard to beat and again, will be looking to keep their confidence and winning streak at a high to compete with the leaders of the competition.
