Best Bet: Lighthouse – Flemington R6 #2 – $2.40
We’re going back to the well on this one. Having made it the best bet three weeks ago and watched it get backed in well before winning a length from Frankie Pinot who has since won at Pakenham last week. The write up is much the same as the American mare is now unbeaten in two starts in Australia after three wins overseas. Although not a massive price, after being impressive last time out I couldn’t go against it even though Bermadez is likely to be very popular in the betting.
I do expect a strong chance that it will drift slightly, so perhaps worthwhile waiting for a nicer price.
Next Best: Guardian Spirit – Flemington R5 #3 – $4.30
This Godolphin colt trained out of the Freedman barn is two from four after back to back wins. Whilst the wins have come in maiden and BM64 class this doesn’t look a particularly tough assignment. Arran Bay is the current fav ($3.25) and also comes off two consecutive wins, the last a BM62 in Adelaide. Jumping from opposite ends, the fav gets the outside barrier and will look to push forward with the help of a 3KG claim whilst Guardian Spirit should settle midfield from barrier 1.
Although not a sure thing, I feel it should be the favourite in the race, so well worth a bet at the price.
