Big Bash 11 Preview

With BBL11 starting on Sunday 5th December, we take you through the teams and offer some insight on their chances of success, along with identifying, the players that need to perform to give the team’s supporters that BOOM moment.

Adelaide Strikers:

The Strikers will be looking to bounce back from their elimination final loss last season to the Heat, and will want to perform well early on this season. With the likes of Alex Carey and Travis Head in the Test squad, Adelaide will be looking at others who can contribute, with Matthew Renshaw and Harry Nielsen looking to step up for the team. Rashid Khan will be pivotal for the Strikers and will show why he is the most important player in the Strikers lineup.

Players to make the Strikers go BOOM: Rashid Khan & Jake Weatherald.

Brisbane Heat:

Brisbane again will have one of the most powerful hitting sides in the competition, with Chris Lynn hoping to go boom out of the blocks. The Heat will be without some of their test stars, and that will show their depth as well as losing Joe Burns to the Melbourne Stars in the off season. They will need players such as Max Bryant to step up to fill the void.

Players to make the Heat go BOOM: Mujeeb Ur Rahman & Chris Lynn.

Hobart Hurricanes:

Hobart go into the competition as one of the underdogs of the season. With a stacked batting lineup with little to no international call ups, the side will be looking to get the runs, with Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short looking to go boom. The Hurricanes will also look to speedsters Riley Merideth and Joel Paris for wickets and will be pivotal in securing victories for the side.

Melbourne Stars:

It may be the year for the Stars this year, and will look forward to win their first trophy of the Big Bash competition. After years of failure in finals, Glenn Maxwell will lead the Stars once again and will look to bring his form from the world cup into the competition, along with Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa. The trio will want to light up the MCG this season looking to give the Melbourne crowd something to cheer about.

Melbourne Renegades:

After a disappointing couple of seasons, the Renegades will want to hop of the bottom of the ladder and this season, and will have a new captain in Nic Maddinson. With his shoulders feeling lighter, Aaron Finch will look to burst out of the blocks opening the batting and pair up with Shaun Marsh to make a dynamic duo. It will be difficult for the Renegades again this year, but it will be a year of trial and error for the wooden spooners.

Perth Scorchers:

Perth will go into the BBL 11 as one of the favourites of the competition with a host of star players lining up for the team. With the likes of World Cup winning player Mitch Marsh and Ashton Agar, the Scorchers will hope their good form converts to their games throughout the season. Though playing in Perth may be tough with Covid restrictions, it will not deter the Scorchers mindset on winning the competition.

Sydney Sixers:

The Sixers will be the team to beat again this season with a host of local and international guns signing on. Sean Abbott and Josh Philippe will be one to watch this season, and the Sixers will want to retain him pending international duties. James Vince is another player the Sixers will want to fire and he will bring in his good form back to the big bash.

Sydney Thunder:

The Thunder will be looking to outshine their Sydney counterparts this season. While they will be without Usman Khawaja due to test duties, they are not short of depth in the batting department with English duo of Alex Hales and Sam Billings hoping to boom for the Thunder. The bowling lineup does hold some question marks, but it will be the spinners of Tanveer Sangha and Jono Cook who will want to continue their Big Bash form.
