The Milkman’s Best – 27th Nov 21

Last Week: The Best Bet, Lighthouse, won well at Ballarat after being backed into odds on late. In the end it was pretty comfortable after settling in a good position from the jump.

As predicted, Skyman didn’t run a bad race, but didn’t quite have the speed in the straight to get a place whilst Criaderas was disappointing. The Godolphin runner settles a long way back but in the last start it had flown home with the fastest 200m and this time had nothing. Very disappointing.

Best Bet: Brereton – Caulfield Race 1 #1 – $2.80

This 2yo Peter Moody Colt claimed a narrow 0.1L win on cup day in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate. Luke Nolen remains onboard and will look to hit the front. The challenge is the unknown nature of the opposition with only Valenconi having been at the track to this point. Ebhaar is the other one favoured by the market with the Snowden-trained filly winning a Randwick trial last month that has already seen two winners.

Next Best: Port Louis – Caulfield Race 6 #2 – $3.70

The Maher & Eustace colt went close on Stakes Day, finishing 2nd to Bend The Knee by 0.1L. John Allen will be looking to lead the 3yo to his first win from nine attempts (5 placings). He has run at G1 level in both NSW and QLD this year, finishing 5th in the Champagne Stakes at Randwick in April and with those kind of runs is surely set to land a win soon. Festival Dancer is the obvious threat in the race after the scratching of Brigantine and coming off four wins in a row including the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle last time out. It has been a big change in fortunes having gone nine without a win to start her career and perhaps the step up in class again to G2 level will prove too difficult, although could easily continue her meteoric rise.

Zipping Classic: Spanish Mission #1 $1.48

I can’t back it at this price, and some would argue it would be a better race without the Melbourne Cup place getter, but this race will be both about a chance to see a class runner go round with a racing legend, Glen Boss, bowing out as he heads to retirement. That makes it more of a viewing spectacle, but perhas Warning will look to spoil the party fresh off wining the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington 3 weeks ago.
